Recently, top officials of the Bush Administration have changed the way that they are talking about terrorism. They have stopped talking about a "war on terrorism." Thinking it too narrowly defined, Administration officials now speak of a "struggle against global extremism." Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld describes America’s policies as a "global struggle against the enemies of freedom, the enemies of civilization."

What's in a Name? "War on Terror" Out, "Struggle Against Extremism" In

Oy-freaking-vey.

So what, are "terrorists" now "counter-strugglers"?

Will Bush call his memoirs Mein Kampf?

Dude. Will the struggle against extremism extend to extreme conservative republicans? Or extreme libertarians? Or extreme pro-choice or extreme pro-life groups? This is just expanding a semantic mess and I don't like it. I'm an extreme grammar fiend. Will they come after me?

Hahaha... Very well put.

I have a feeling that Mountain Dew, long billed as an EXTREME SUGARY CARBONATED BEVERAGE will be a casualty of the struggle as well. And that won't help our ability to compete in the global market one bit.

I can see the toned-down ads now: Mountain Dew! It's more than mildly caffinated! It tastes interesting! And it's yellow, who doesn't like yellow stuff?!?! Enemies of civilization and liberty, that's who!

I really need to re-read 1984.
